Sacratini’s Two Goals, Belgrave OT Winner Lift Plattsburgh Past Cortland

CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team earned a thrilling 3–2 overtime victory on the road Friday night at Cortland, bouncing back from last weekend's tough 5–4 loss to No. 4 Oswego.

The Red Dragons struck first just 1:56 into the opening period, as Jack Martin scored off assists from Stephen Kyrkostas and Andrew Clouden. Cortland doubled its lead barely a minute later when Matthew DeSpirt found the back of the net, set up by Morley Phillips and Garrett Krieger, putting the Cardinals in a quick 2–0 hole.

Plattsburgh responded in impressive fashion. With just over four minutes left in the first period, Jake Sacratini (Montreal, Quebec) tallied his first goal of the night, assisted by Quinn Tavares (Mississauga, Ontario) and Jaden Ward (East Aurora, N.Y.), cutting the deficit to 2–1. Sacratini struck again at 18:07 to knot the game at 2–2, this time with helpers from Spencer Bellina (Medina, Ohio) and Tavares, sending the first period into the books all even.

From there, both teams battled through a tightly contested second and third period, trading scoring chances but failing to solve the opposing goaltender. In overtime, sophomore Joshua Belgrave (Burlington, Ontario) delivered the game-winning goal with just six seconds remaining, assisted by Aaron Catron (Middletown, Del.), lifting the Cardinals to a hard-fought victory.

First-year Beau Lane (Pembroke, Mass.) was strong in net for Plattsburgh, making 35 saves to secure the win. This matchup marked the teams' second meeting this season. Plattsburgh previously pulled off a dramatic 3–2 overtime win earlier in the year and maintains a commanding edge in the all-time series, now holding a 94–8–3 record over the Red Dragons.

With the victory, the Cardinals improve to 9–10 overall and 5–7 in SUNYAC play. They will return to the road tomorrow night to face Morrisville, with puck drop set for 7 p.m.
