PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team snapped a two-game skid in emphatic fashion on Saturday, powering past Vermont State University-Johnson, 6-1, on Senior Day at the Field House Complex.
The Badgers struck first in the 13th minute when Olivia Davis found the back of the net, but the Cardinals wasted no time responding. Just two minutes later, junior transfer Sydney Myers (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac) scored her first goal of the season to level the match at 1-1. Myers struck again in the 17th minute, giving Plattsburgh its first lead of the afternoon.
The offensive push continued as fellow junior transfer Lilley Keyser netted her first goal as a Cardinal in the 33rd minute. Just three minutes later, Myers completed her hat trick, and before the half was over, she struck again for her fourth goal of the opening 45 minutes, tying the program record for most goals in a single game. The Cardinals carried a commanding 5-1 lead into the break.
The Cardinals wasted little time adding insurance after halftime. In the 47th minute, sophomore center back Amy Crowley (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill) drilled a long-range strike for her first collegiate goal, extending the lead to 6-1. From there, Plattsburgh's defense held firm to secure the victory.
With the win, the Cardinals improve to 2-2 on the season and return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 10, with a non-conference matchup at Skidmore College at 4 p.m.
