SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team was unable to build on the momentum from its decisive Senior Day victory, falling 3-1 to Skidmore College on Wednesday evening.
The Cardinals entered the contest fresh off a 6-1 win over VTSU-Johnson and were seeking their first back-to-back victories of the season. Skidmore, however, proved to be a tough opponent, handing Plattsburgh its third road loss of the year.
Plattsburgh came out strong, striking first in the 16th minute. Junior forward Sydney Myers (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac), who tied the program record with four goals in her last outing, continued her hot streak by finishing a feed from senior Alexis Patrick (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) to give the Cardinals the early 1-0 advantage.
The Thoroughbreds responded quickly, leveling the score less than 10 minutes later on a goal from Abby Lewis. The teams remained locked at 1-1 heading into halftime.
Skidmore pulled ahead in the 64th minute when Lewis found the back of the net for the second time. Ten minutes later, Alexandra Verna extended the lead, giving the Thoroughbreds a 3-1 cushion that held for the remainder of the match.
With the loss, Plattsburgh falls to 2-3 on the season and will look to bounce back at home on Saturday when the Cardinals host Union College at 11:30 a.m.
