Plattsburgh State Women’s Tennis Wraps Conference Play with Road Win

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team wrapped up SUNYAC play with a 5-2 victory over Oneonta on Saturday afternoon, earning their second win in conference play. 

With the win, the Cardinals improve to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in conference play, and will conclude their regular season on the road against Castleton on Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1 p.m. The Red Dragons fall to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in conference play and will host Misericordia tomorrow at 11 a.m.

Plattsburgh State got off to a strong start in doubles play. At No. 1 doubles, Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) and Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) secured a 6-4 win. The No. 3 doubles team of Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and Abigail MacDougal (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) battled to a 6-4 victory, while the No. 2 duo of Carmen Marino (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) and Ava Perry (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) completed the sweep with a hard-fought 7-6 win.

In singles play, Cantwell dominated at No. 4 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory, and Mitchell followed with a 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 1. Marino clinched the match for the Cardinals at No. 5, posting an impressive 6-3, 6-4 triumph. Perry closed out the day with a gritty three-set victory at No. 3 (6-4, 2-6, 10-7).
