MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw on the road at Morrisville on Saturday in SUNYAC play, as the Cardinals looked to bounce back following their first conference contest.
Plattsburgh State entered the matchup having dropped its conference opener at Fredonia, 1-0, snapping a seven-game unbeaten streak. The Cardinals had never lost to Morrisville in four all-time meetings, most recently playing the Mustangs to a draw in 2024.
The Cardinals struck first in the 24th minute when junior Tristan Laundree (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) tallied his third goal of the season, assisted by sophomore Lucas Arbelaez (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Somers), who earned his first start of the year. Plattsburgh State controlled the first half, outshooting Morrisville 6-3 and taking a 1-0 advantage into the break.
The Cardinals were forced to play a man down for the final 30 minutes following a red card in the 61st minute. Morrisville capitalized on the numbers advantage, applying consistent pressure and outshooting Plattsburgh 12-6 in the second half. The Mustangs found their equalizer in the closing minutes, as Alieu Barrie scored to secure a 1-1 draw in dramatic fashion.
With the result, Plattsburgh State moves to 5-1-4 overall (0-1-1 SUNYAC). The Cardinals will have Wednesday off before returning to conference play at home against Cortland on Saturday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m.
