Strong Doubles Start Not Enough as Cardinals Fall to Oswego

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team dropped its third conference match of the season on Friday, falling 6-1 to Oswego.

With the loss, Plattsburgh State moves to 3-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Cardinals will continue action tomorrow on the road against Oneonta. The Lakers, meanwhile, remain unbeaten at 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play and will face New Paltz on Saturday.

In doubles play, Plattsburgh earned its lone point of the match, beginning with a 6-4 win at No. 1 behind the strong play of Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) and Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet). After Oswego evened the score with a decisive win at No. 2, the Cardinals clinched the doubles point at No. 3, as Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and Abigail Macdougal (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) prevailed, 6-4.

The Lakers responded in singles action, sweeping all six matches to secure the 6-1 victory. Ava Perry (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) at No. 3 singles, Cantwell at No. 4 singles, and Marena Tuba (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) at No. 6 singles each pushed their matches to a third set before ultimately falling.
