CORTLAND, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team dropped its second conference match of the season on Saturday, falling 6-1 to Cortland.
With the loss, Plattsburgh State moves to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference play, and will return home to host Oswego on Friday, Sept. 26. The Red Dragons improve to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play, and will next travel to Nazareth on Monday, Sept. 22.
In doubles play, Cortland secured the opening point by winning at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The Cardinals earned a victory at No. 3 doubles, however, as Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and Abigail Macdougal (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) won their match, 6-1.
The Red Dragons quickly clinched the match in singles action, earning wins at No. 6, No. 4, and No. 1 singles. At No. 5,
Carmen Marino (Buchanan, N.Y./Hendrick Hudson) pushed her opponent to a third set before ultimately falling. Plattsburgh earned its lone point of the day at No. 2 singles, where
Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) battled to a hard-fought victory, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.
