Box Score FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team saw its season-opening unbeaten streak come to an end on Saturday, falling 1-0 on the road at Fredonia in its State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) opener. The Cardinals had won four of the last five meetings with the Blue Devils entering the match.
The first half proved to be a defensive battle, with both sides struggling to generate quality scoring chances. Fredonia held a slight 4-3 edge in shots, but with only three shots on target combined, the contest remained scoreless at the break.
Just over 10 minutes into the second half, the Blue Devils broke through when Kyto Magee found the back of the net to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Plattsburgh, no stranger to late-game comebacks this season, pressed hard for an equalizer and outshot Fredonia in the second half. However, the Blue Devils' back line held strong, keeping the Cardinals off the scoreboard and handing them their first loss of the season.
With the defeat, Plattsburgh falls to 4-1-3 overall and 0-1 in SUNYAC play. The Cardinals return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, traveling to RPI for a non-conference matchup at 7 p.m.
