PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Plattsburgh State junior Matthew D'Ippolito (Baldwin Place, N.Y./Somers) was named the Spry State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon. The honor marks the team's fourth weekly award of the season and D'Ippolito's second.
D'Ippolito helped lead the Cardinals to another undefeated week as Plattsburgh State completed the regular season unbeaten in SUNYAC play. He opened the week with a victory over Cobleskill, recording one save to preserve the shutout. He followed that performance with one of his strongest outings of the season against nationally ranked Cortland in a matchup for the SUNYAC's top seed. D'Ippolito recorded nine saves, including a crucial penalty-kick stop, while making several key saves as the Cardinals played with 10 men for the majority of the second half. His outstanding performance in goal helped Plattsburgh State secure an undefeated conference regular season.
