PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team dropped its first conference match of the season on Saturday, falling 7-0 to New Paltz.
With the loss, Plattsburgh State moves to 2-2 on the year and will hit the road to take on Fredonia in another conference match on Friday, Sept. 19. The Hawks earned their first conference victory of the season and are set to face Vassar on the road Sunday, Sept. 14.
In doubles play, New Paltz swept all three matches, though the Cardinals battled to win points in both the No. 1 doubles flight with Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) and Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet), as well as the No. 3 pairing of Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and Abigail Macdougal (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley).
Singles action began with quick wins for the Hawks, who clinched the match after taking a 4-0 lead. New Paltz went on to win the final three flights to complete the sweep. At the top spot, Mitchell battled throughout her match but ultimately fell 1-6, 1-6 at No. 1 singles.
