PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match in their second home game of the season Saturday, falling 6-1 to NCAA Division II Saint Michael's College.
Plattsburgh State moves to 1-1 with the loss and next travels to Albany to take on Russell Sage for a match on Friday, Sept. 5. The Purple Knights improve to 2-0 with the win and next play Colby Sawyer on the road on Wednesday, Sept. 3.
Doubles action went the way of Saint Michael's as they won No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to secure the point before Kristy Cantwell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) and Abigail Macdougal (Keeseville, NY/AuSable Valley) won their match at No. 3 doubles 6-1.
In singles action, the Purple Knights quickly clinched the match win, winning at the top singles spots in swift matches to defeat the Cardinals. In the final match of the day at No. 6 singles, Plattsburgh recorded its lone point on the day, as Marena Tuba (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) was able to win (5-7, 6-4, 10,-6).
