PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Senior
Sophia Gottschall (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Women's Tennis team released on Tuesday. Gottschall joins the Svantner triplets as the only members in program history to earn the honor, as each was named to the team last year.
To be eligible for this ballot, student-athletes must excel on the court and in the classroom, carrying at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA while being at least a sophomore academically and athletically.
Gottschall was a double honoree, earning All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) honors on Second Team Fourth Singles and Second Team Third Doubles. In singles action this season, Gottschall had a 6-5 mark at fourth singles, a 1-3 conference record, and an overall record of 7-6. In doubles play, she finished the season 7-6 overall, going 1-3 in conference play. This included a 2-1 record at second doubles and a 5-5 record at third doubles.
The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team finished the season 7-6 (2-3 SUNYAC) and competed in the SUNYAC tournament for the first time since 2017. The team fell in the semifinals to eventual champion New Paltz, who did not lose a single set all season against a conference opponent.
