Men’s Lacrosse Cruises to 13-7 Win Over Morrisville in Season Finale

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team had seven different goal scorers, led by sophomore Peter Urso (Bay Shore, N.Y. / Bay Shore) with three as they cruised to a 13-7 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) win over Morrisville on Saturday afternoon at Drake Field. Urso finished with a career-high six points, recording three goals and a career-high three assists.

Senior Donald Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) also had a three-goal performance while senior Logan Vilardi (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon) and first-year Ethan Francey (Canton, N.Y. / Canton) had two goals each. Sophomores Jamie Gipe (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C. W. Baker) and Dylan Ruland (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) both scored a goal for Plattsburgh while Gipe also recorded an assist for a multi-point performance. First-year Steven Fenner (Pequannock, N. J. / Pequannock) scored the first goal of his collegiate career for his first career point while Anthony Faber (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) and Tim Keenan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Arlington) had an assist each. Senior Jimbo Farrelly (West Nyack, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) had a fantastic day on faceoffs, going 19-22, tying his career-high in faceoff wins. Farrelly led the team with 11 ground balls, followed by Gipe with four. Faber led the team in caused turnovers with three, followed by Ruland and Kevin Murray (Bellmore, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial) with two.

For the Mustangs, Kyan Dohn and Jason Tedeschi both finished with two goals and an assist for three points on the day. Curtis Robitaille and Dean Mohammed had a goal and an assist to contribute to the overall offense. Andrew Idzik led the team in ground balls with seven, caused turnovers with four, and faceoff wins with four.

The Cardinals dominated the shot count, 58-29, recording 37 shots on goal while the Mustangs had 21 shots on goal. Plattsburgh went a perfect 3-3 on extra-man opportunities compared to Morrisville who were scoreless in three chances. The Cardinals had a 19-4 advantage on faceoffs and had a 35-24 edge in ground balls. Plattsburgh was efficient on clears, finishing 22-24, while Morrisville was 19-29.

Plattsburgh State rises to 6-8 (2-5 SUNYAC) with the win, concluding their 2025 season with their most conference wins since 2021 and most overall wins since 2019. Morrisville falls to 2-10 (1-6 SUNYAC) with the loss, concluding their 2025 season as well.

While Plattsburgh struck first in the opening quarter, thanks to a goal from Francey at the 8:40 mark, Morrisville scored the next three goals, taking a 3-1 lead into the second quarter.

The Cardinals didn't take long to strike in the second quarter as Urso and Faber took advantage of a Morrisville turnover on a clear attempt. Faber intercepted an errant pass by the defense, finding Urso right at the doorstep of the goalie for the score, cutting the Mustangs' lead to 3-2. Morrisville responded minutes later with a goal from Robitaille, pushing their lead back to two. However, three straight goals from Plattsburgh tied and then gave the Cardinals a 5-4 lead. Woods got the run started and brought the Cardinals within one, Ruland tied the game at four, and Vilardi put the Cardinals ahead, giving them a 5-4 lead at the 6:56 mark. That lead would hold until the end of the quarter as the three-goal scoring run had the Cardinals on top 5-4 at halftime.

Plattsburgh started right where they left off, coming out of the break and scoring four straight goals, including two from Urso and one from Fenner, who netted the first goal of his collegiate career as the Cardinals took a 9-4 lead just five minutes into the third quarter. Dohn broke up the run with a goal at the 6:16 mark, finally breaking the drought for Morrisville, but the Mustangs still trailed 9-5. After trading goals, Woods tacked on a late goal with five seconds left, extending Plattsburgh's lead to 11-6 after three quarters of play.

Morrisville opened the scoring in the fourth quarter at the 12:09 mark and cut Plattsburgh's lead to 11-7, but were held scoreless the rest of the way. The Cardinals quickly countered with a goal a minute later as Woods notched his third goal of the game off a pass from Keenan, putting Plattsburgh ahead 12-7. Gipe followed that up with a man-up goal at the 6:49 mark, leading to a 13-7 victory for Plattsburgh.

Sophomore Cole Orehosky (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) made 14 saves in 60 minutes of action in the win for Plattsburgh. Sophomore Blake Dunton made a career-high 24 saves in 60 minutes of action in the loss for Morrisville.

Saturday marked the final collegiate game for Brandon Braithwaite (Roosevelt, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial), Ely Bruhns (Clifton Park,  N.Y. / Shenendehowa), Faber, Farrelly, Matt Gannon (Poughkeepsie, N.Y. / Arlington), Max Lamitie (Ridge, N.Y. / Longwood), Jab Duval Lapaix (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes), Matt Palmer (Smithtown, N.Y. / Smithtown West), Kyle Ruland (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford), Vilardi, Mike Walsh (Westchester, N.Y. / Lakeland), Ryan Weaver (Colonie, N.Y. / Colonie Central), and Woods
