ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State softball team dropped two State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) games on Saturday, falling to Oneonta by scores of 14-5 and 11-3, both in six innings.

Meghan Stork (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) drove in a run in game one and scored three times in the doubleheader to lead the Cardinal offense, also picking up a double and a stolen base.

Plattsburgh State falls to 5-18 (2-8 SUNYAC) and next travels to Saint Michael's on Tuesday, Apr. 22 at 3 p.m. Oneonta improves to 14-12 (8-2 SUNYAC) and next hosts Cortland on Friday, Apr. 25.

Game One: Oneonta 14, Plattsburgh 5 (6 innings)

The Red Dragons scored six runs in the second inning of game one and went on to take down the Cardinals 14-5 in six innings.

Gwen Noll (Massapequa, N.Y./St. Anthony's) went 2-3 with a run scored and a stolen base while Stork and Sara Isaacs (Malta, N.Y./Shenendehowa) each had an RBI and a run scored. Leila Toomey (Commack, N.Y./Commack) was 1-2 with an RBI and a run scored while Sarah Milyko (Goshen, N.Y./Chester) was 1-3 with an RBI.

For the Red Dragons, Ava Thys was 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, and Emily Brown also finished 3-4, driving in two runs and scoring once. Julia Serena was 2-4 with two runs scored, and Kayla Kean and Abigail Silliman each drove in two runs. Tanner Smith pitched three innings, allowing just one unearned run to earn the win.

Oneonta started the scoring in the second, scoring six runs on five hits and two errors to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Cardinals were able to add a run in the following half-inning, as Milyko drove in Toomey with a single to right-center to make the score 6-1. In the fourth, they scored again, as Toomey brought in a run with an RBI groundout.

In the bottom of the fourth, Oneonta extended their lead to 9-2 as they had back-to-back RBI singles and then an RBI groundout.

Plattsburgh responded with three runs of their own in the top of the fifth, with Stork starting the rally by doubling home Noll after she led the inning off with a single. Isaacs followed with a single to center field, and later in the frame, Bella Toleman (Stillwater, N.Y./Stillwater) scored Isaacs with an RBI groundout.

After adding a run in the bottom of the fifth, the Red Dragons walked off the game in the bottom of the sixth on the run-rule, scoring four runs on four hits. Thys had the game-ending blow, with a two-run double.

Game Two: Oneonta 11, Plattsburgh 3 (6 innings)

The Red Dragon offense did not relent in game two, scoring multiple runs in four of the six times they batted, including a five-run sixth for the run-rule win.

The Cardinal offense was led by Michelle DeFina (Commack, N.Y./Commack) and Mikayla Pappas (Stormville, N.Y./Carmel), who each went 2-3, while DeFina walked, and Pappas had an RBI. Stork was 1-2 with two runs scored and walk as well for the Cards.

Serena led the offensive effort for Oneonta, going 3-4 with three runs scored, an RBI, and two doubles, while Kean was 2-2 with four RBI and two walks. Sophia Mangone had a double and was 2-3 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Brown earned the win with six strong innings, striking out 11 and allowing just two earned runs.

The Cardinals started the scoring as Stork singled with one out, stole second, and came around to score on a throwing error to put Plattsburgh up 1-0. Oneonta responded with a two-run bottom-half of the inning, as Serena doubled home a run and Brown singled her home.

Two more runs scored for Oneonta in the third, as back-to-back bases loaded walks put them up 4-1.

Plattsburgh got back within two runs as Pappas singled home Toleman in the fourth, but the Red Dragons once again added two runs in the bottom half of the inning to extend their lead to four runs. Stork scored in the fifth, as Isaacs got caught in a rundown long enough for the first-year to score from third.

In the bottom of the sixth, Oneonta exploded for five runs on six hits, winning the game with a run-rule. The final blow came as Sophia Camacho doubled to left center to score Kean and end the game.
