Franklin Infante (East Rockaway, N.Y. / East Rockaway) earned All-State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) honors as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
The honor gives Tabb his third career all-conference selection and second straight second-team honor, while Welch also earned second-team plaudits and Infante was named to the third team. This is both Welch's and Infante's first time earning an all-conference selection.
Tabb continued to be one of the Cardinals' top offensive options in 2024-25 averaging double figures on the season with 13.1 points per game (PPG). He shot a career-best 43.0% from the field, 37.0% from behind the arc, and 86.4% from the stripe, earning one SUNYAC Athlete of the Week honor. The junior guard scored in double figures in 18 games, scoring 20 or more in five of those games including the Cardinals' game on Feb. 14 at Oswego State where he led the team with a season-high 24 points that helped Plattsburgh clinch a postseason berth. Not only was the Brooklyn native one of Plattsburgh's top offensive options but a threat on the defensive end as well, totaling 53 steals and averaging 2.0 steals per game (SPG) placing him second in the conference. He recorded three steals or more in 10 games, highlighted by a season-high six steals on Dec. 1 against Vermont State University (VTSU) Lyndon. Tabb concluded his season being named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team for his performances in Plattsburgh's first round and semifinal games. In the SUNYAC first round against Morrisville, Tabb scored 13 points to go with four steals and four rebounds, and he followed that up with 21 points and three rebounds against Oswego State in the SUNYAC semifinals.
Welch was a welcome addition to Plattsburgh this year, leading the team in scoring, averaging 15.0 PPG. He finished the season with six 20-plus point games and one 30-point game, scoring in double figures in all but five games. Welch was one of the Cardinals' most efficient scorers, shooting 50.0% from the field, which was enough for fifth in the conference. The junior guard's best performance offensively was on Feb. 15 at Canton where he scored a career-high 30 points. Welch was not only a scoring threat for Plattsburgh but also a playmaker as well, leading the team with 3.8 assists per game (APG) ranking second in the conference. One of his best games as a playmaker came on Nov. 30 at Colby where he dished out a career-high 12 assists. The Brooklyn native also put up a strong fight on the glass, averaging 5.5 rebounds per game (RPG) highlighted by a career-high 11 rebounds on Nov. 16 at Norwich. He finished the season over the 1,000-point mark and recorded three double-doubles, notching one game with double-digit rebounds and three games with double-digit assists. Welch concluded his first season at Plattsburgh with 19 points and eight rebounds in the Cardinals' SUNYAC semifinal game at New Paltz.
Infante has been another source of offense for Plattsburgh, averaging 12.6 PPG, with three 20-plus point performances highlighted by a 24-point performance on Feb. 21 against Buffalo State that was capped off by the game-tying and then winning free throw in an overtime win for the Cardinals. The East Rockaway native shot a career best 44.7% from the field and 78.1% from the free throw line. Defensively, he had seven games where he recorded two or more steals and finished with 32 total on the year. The senior guard proved to be a force on the boards, averaging 5.0 RPG, recording 10 rebounds on Nov. 16 at Norwich and Feb. 14 at Oswego State. He also had 14 points and a season-high seven assists, falling short of the triple-double but notching his second double-double of the season. On the year he had 55 assists with four games of five or more assists. Infante concluded his time at Plattsburgh surpassing the 1,000-point milestone as well as earning an Athlete of the Week honor. In the SUNYAC first round against Morrisville, he scored 21 points followed by another double figure outing with 11 points at New Paltz in the SUNYAC semifinals.
Deacon Judd of Oswego State was tabbed Player of the Year as well as Rookie of the Year while Dakoda Smith of New Paltz was named the Tom Spanbauer Defensive Player of the Year. Head coach Keith Kenney and his staff from New Paltz were recognized as the Coaching Staff of the Year.
Plattsburgh State finished the season 15-12 (11-7 SUNYAC) and made the SUNYAC playoffs for the second year in a row, this time sliding in at the fourth seed. The fourth-seeded Cardinals matched up against fifth-seeded Morrisville in the first round on Tuesday, Feb. 25, and won 69-66 before falling to top-seeded New Paltz 74-72 in the semifinals on Friday, Feb. 28.
