Women’s Soccer Bounce Back Strong with 2-0 Win Over Oneonta

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team returned to the win column on Wednesday afternoon, earning a 2-0 victory over Oneonta in SUNYAC action at the Field House Complex.

The Cardinals entered the contest with a 2-1 conference record, looking to rebound after a setback against Cortland on Saturday. True to form, Plattsburgh once again responded following a loss, marking the fourth time this season they've bounced back with a win.

In a tightly contested opening half that saw both sides register 10 shots apiece, the Cardinals controlled much of the possession and created several quality chances. Sophomore Bailey LaFountain (Mooers Forks, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton) nearly opened the scoring in the 13th minute, rattling a shot off the crossbar.

Plattsburgh eventually broke through in the 40th minute when junior Lilley Keyser's (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) shot deflected off a Red Dragon defender and fell to junior Sydney Myers (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac), who calmly finished for her team-leading seventh goal of the year to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

The Cardinals continued to dictate play in the second half, outshooting Oneonta 8-3. Their pressure paid off in the 58th minute as sophomore Leah Warren (Lisbon, N.Y./Lisbon) doubled the lead, converting on an assist from first-year Ireland McGowan (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) to make it 2-0.

Defensively, Plattsburgh was steady throughout, securing their fourth shutout of the season behind seven saves from sophomore goalkeeper Desiree Dubois (Champlain, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton Central).

With the win, Plattsburgh State improves to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in SUNYAC play, maintaining their spot near the top of the conference standings. The Cardinals will next travel to Canton for another conference matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m.
