Myers’ Second-Half Strike Lifts Cardinals Past Potsdam, 1-0

POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team continued its strong late-season form with a 1-0 road victory over North Country rival SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday afternoon.

Coming off a 1-1 draw at Oswego that secured their spot in the SUNYAC playoffs, the Cardinals controlled much of the play throughout the contest, dictating the tempo and possession while limiting the Bears to minimal opportunities. Despite their dominance, quality scoring chances were hard to come by in a defensive first half that saw Plattsburgh outshoot Potsdam, 4-1, as the game remained scoreless at the break.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides struggling to generate dangerous looks until the later stages. Potsdam nearly broke through midway through the half, chipping the goalkeeper and missing just wide of the left post on their best opportunity of the match. The Cardinals quickly responded, as senior Hannah Meyers forced a save moments later before senior Kelly Licata slipped a pass through to junior Sydney Myers (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Saranac), who buried her team-leading 10th goal of the season to give Plattsburgh the decisive lead.

The Cardinals' back line held firm the rest of the way, securing the clean sheet and preserving the 1-0 victory. With the win, Plattsburgh improves to 8-6-2 overall and 5-1-2 in SUNYAC play, while extending their unbeaten streak to five games.

Plattsburgh will close out its regular season on the road at Buffalo State on Saturday, Oct. 25, with kickoff set for 11 a.m.
