Plattsburgh State Earns Hard-Fought Draw Against New Paltz

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team battled to a hard-fought 0-0 draw against defending SUNYAC champion New Paltz on Wednesday afternoon at the Field House Soccer Complex.

The Cardinals entered the contest on a two-game conference win streak and atop the SUNYAC standings, while also looking to snap a four-game skid against the Hawks.

The first half was an even, back-and-forth affair with limited possession for either side, as much of the action took place in the midfield. New Paltz held a slight 6-4 advantage in shots, but neither team was able to break through, sending the match into halftime scoreless.

The second half followed a similar script, with both sides creating chances but unable to capitalize. The Hawks once again outshot Plattsburgh State 6-4, though the Cardinals generated two of the best opportunities of the match late in the half.

Junior Lilley Keyser (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) intercepted a ball in the attacking third and found senior Sally Gliganic (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) across the face of goal, but her attempt was denied by the New Paltz goalkeeper Jess Centeri. Moments later, senior Kelly Licata (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) delivered a pinpoint pass in behind the defense to senior Hannah Meyers (Peru, N.Y./Peru), whose shot was also turned away.

Defensively, Plattsburgh State was stellar once again, earning its third straight shutout. Junior Lia Parker (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac), along with first-years Ireland McGowan (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) and Mariah Nowicki (Ballston Spa, N.Y./Ballston Spa), anchored the back line logging 90-minute efforts, while sophomore goalkeeper Desiree DuBois (Champlain, N.Y./Northeastern Clinton Central) recorded three saves in the clean sheet.

With the draw, Plattsburgh State moves to 7-6-1 overall and 4-1-1 in SUNYAC play and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 18, when they travel to Oswego State for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
