The first period saw even play over 20 minutes of action, with neither team netting a lot of offense, as the Cardinals held a slim 6-5 shot advantage. Each team had a shot power play in the period, with neither team able to generate much offense in their advantage opportunities.

In the second period, the close, even play continued, but Cortland finally got a shot to go in the net, when McKenzie Brown scored unassisted off a Plattsburgh turnover at 9:48 in the period.

Shortly after, the Cards went on their final power play of the day and put two shots on goal but were unable to find the equalizing shot.

In the third period, the Red Dragon offense put up their best period with 11 shots, holding the Cardinals to just seven chances. Down the stretch, Plattsburgh went on two penalty kills, making it difficult for the team to generate offense or pull their goalie for an extra attacker.
