The Mustangs were the first to score on Friday night, taking an early 1-0 lead with a Zoe Leas goal just 1:14 into the game action. It took a while for Plattsburgh to tie the game, but they finally did in the as Kasprzak's shot from the right face-off circle deflected off the Morrisville netminder and into the goal at the 16:21 mark of the first period. Ella Procyk (Stratford, Conn./Lovell Academy) earned an assist on the play, forcing a turnover in the Plattsburgh offensive zone.

After two power plays saw no goals for the Cardinals, their first chance on the advantage in the second period gave them the lead. Sydnee Francis (Canton, N.Y./Nepean Jr. Wildcats) also added an assist on the power play goal.

The game remained just a one-score match through the rest of the second period, despite Plattsburgh holding a 24-3 advantage in shots. Morrisville goalie Elizabeth Timby played excellent, as she made 49 saves, holding the game at 2-1 until the Cardinals were able to tack on a big insurance goal with just under five minutes remaining in the game. Urban also added an assist on the play.
