BEVERLY, Mass. – The Plattsburgh State men's soccer team picked up another win on the season in a 4-1 victory over Endicott. The Cardinals had three different players record a goal led by sophomore forward
Xavier Kamba (Nyack, N.Y. / Nyack) with two.
John Hayes (Pearl River, N.Y. / Pearl River) recorded the game's opening goal and
Thomas O'Neill (Massapequa Park, N.Y. / Massapequa) recorded the game-winning goal.
Teddy Healy (Amityville, N.Y. / Somers) recorded five saves in 90 minutes of action earning his third win of the season.
The shot battle was fairly close as the Cardinals had the edge 17-14 and had 10 shots on goal while the Gulls had seven shots on goal. The Cardinals earned nine corner kicks and the Gulls earned five.
Plattsburgh moves to 3-0-1 with the win and heads to Clarkson for a road match on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. Endicott falls to 1-2-1 and next hosts WPI on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The scoring opened for the Cardinals at the 8:11 mark, as Hayes beat his defender and finished top left to put the Cardinals on the board first. The Cardinals tacked on another goal as O'Neill was able to send a shot through from inside the box for his first goal as a Cardinal off of the cross from
Modou Badjie (Kingston, N.Y. / Kingston) at the 21:04 mark. Not long after the Gulls had an opportunity to get on the board at the 26:16 mark but the shot was saved by the Cardinal defense.
The Cardinals' 2-0 lead held for nearly the entire half, but Peyton Luther put in a one-timer from inside the box putting the Gulls on the board at the 41:19 mark of the first half.
The second half was more of the same for the Cardinals as they were able to add another two goals with Kamba scoring both at the 48:42 and 77:56 marks for his third and fourth goals of the season assisted by O'Neill and
Jack Murphy (Blauvelt, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) respectively.
Despite a strong attack from the Gulls with nine shots in the second half Healy turned away all five shots on goal and shut them out in the second half leading to a 4-1 victory for the Cardinals.
Michael McDonough took the loss in net for Endicott, making five saves in 90 minutes.
