PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team dropped a non-conference decision on Wednesday night, falling to the Clarkson Golden Knights 3-0 at the Field House Complex Turf in Plattsburgh, New York.
Lauren Haley (LaGrange, N.Y./Arlington) was once again excellent in goal making eight saves over 90 minutes of action. Offensively, the Cardinals were able to get two shots on goal, as
Alexis Patrick (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) and
Macie Bolton (Belchertown, Mass./Belchertown) tallied the two on-target looks. Overall, Clarkson held a 20-7 advantage on shots and a 10-1 advantage on corner kicks over Plattsburgh.
The Cardinals move to 1-5 on the season and next travel to Fredonia to begin league action on Saturday, Sept. 21. The Golden Knights next travel to Cortland on Saturday, Sept. 21 for a non-league match.
The beginning of the game's action saw a fairly even match, as each team had opportunities in their attacking thirds. Clarkson did well to earn themselves some looks from the corner in the first 23 minutes of action, earning six of their ten early in the game.
The momentum of the game was turned upside down multiple times in the 31
st minute, as the foul in the box led to a penalty kick for the Golden Knights. Initially, the play looked like it resulted in two highlight reel saves from Haley, as she stopped the kick and a second attempt. However, it was ruled that she left the line too early, and the kick was retaken. On the second chance at the penalty spot, Maddie Lopol was able to sneak in the shot for the goal as Haley stopped the ball's initial momentum, but it trickled over the line for the goal.
In the second half, the Golden Knights were able to generate a steady flow of offense, scoring in the 61
st and 75
th minute, to pull away and take home a 3-0 win. Haley was able to stop several good looks, but the consistent attack proved to be enough for the Clarkson offense.
Molly DiCaprio earned the shutout win in goal for the Golden Knights, making two saves while Brooke Butler and Emma Robinson tallied goals and Chloe Hodge and Brooke Everest each had assists.
