Men’s Lacrosse Falls in Non-Conference Action on the Road at Plymouth State

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – After being shut out in the first half, the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team were unable to come back and fell 15-2 to Plymouth State in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Senior midfielder Cam Morin (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater-Raynham) and sophomore midfielder George Rhatigan (Bethlehem, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central) both picked up a goal on the day. Senior attacker John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) led the Cardinals in ground balls with seven. First-year defender Fynn Whitlock came away with three caused turnovers to lead the Cardinals. Junior midfielder Jimbo Farrelly (West Nyack, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) picked up four faceoff wins. 
 
For the Panthers, Matt Miner led the team in points with five tallying three assists and two goals. Crosby Fay led the team in goals with four. 
 
The Panthers only had a 43-38 edge on shots but had 28 of those shots on goals while the Cardinals only had 15 shots on goal. The Panthers also held the edge in ground balls 42-34. On clears, the Cardinals were 22-29 while the Panthers were 21-28. The Cardinals had no extra man-up opportunities while the Panthers went 1-2 on extra man-up opportunities. 

Plattsburgh moves to 3-2 with the loss and next travels to Clarkson University on Wednesday, March 13 with the opening faceoff taking place at 4 pm. Plymouth State moves to 5-0 with the win and next travels to Clark University on Wednesday, March 13 with the  opening faceoff taking place at 4 pm. 
 
Senior goalie Dan Clements (Putnam Valley, N.Y. / Putnam Valley) saw 10 shots in the first quarter and saved five of them. The first five minutes saw tough defensive play by both teams as the game was deadlocked at 0-0 before Miner scored at the 9:53 mark and put the Panthers on the board first. Two minutes later the Panthers poured on two more within 15 seconds of one another and made the score 3-0 Panthers. The Panthers added to their lead with two more goals with less than three minutes left in the quarter. The Cardinals only got two shots on goal but nothing got past senior goalie Owen McNichols as they went into the second down 5-0. 
 
The Panthers struck first in the second at the 12:36 mark after a penalty on Eiseman and took advantage of the extra man-up opportunity. The Panthers then outscored the Cardinals 6-0 as the Cardinals only got one shot on goal and went into halftime down 11-0. 
 
Clements had another impressive quarter as he saw six shots and saved four of them. The Cardinals' defense was able to hold in the third as the Panthers only scored two goals and went up 13-0 after three-quarters of play. The Cardinals' offense woke up as they got nine shots on goal before they finally broke through in the fourth.
 
Neither team scored until after five minutes of play when Morin scored the Cardinals' first goal of the game at the 9:36 mark after he cut inside the defender for a bounce shot right at the doorstep of the goalie. Anthony Lorizio responded shortly after and made the score 15-1 Panthers. Rhatigan scored the final goal of the game at the 1:48 mark as he came straight out of the substitution box and drove to the net where he hit a bounce shot on the run that got past the goalie and made the final score 15-2 Panthers. 
 
Clements finished with 12 saves in 45 minutes of action in the loss for Plattsburgh. First-year goalie Cole Orehosky (Hauppauge, N.Y. / Hauppauge) played his first career game with 15 minutes of action as he picked up one save. McNichols finished with three saves in 30 minutes of action in the win for Plymouth State.
