POTSDAM, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team dropped their road game against Clarkson on Wednesday evening, falling 21-4 in non-conference action.
Junior attacker
Donald Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) led the Cardinals in points with three as he recorded two assists and one goal. The Cardinals got one goal each from
Kyle Ruland (Medford, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford),
Spencer Fucheck (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y. / Crotom Harmon), and
Cam Morin (Raynham Mass. / Bridgewater-Raynham) while Morin also picked up an assist on one of Woods' goals. Senior attacker
John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) assisted on Ruland's goal. Sophomore defender
Connor Vanella (Holtsville, N.Y. / Sachem East) picked up four ground balls and junior midfielder
Jab Duval Lapaix won four faceoffs.
For the Golden Knights, Matt Reilly led the team in points with six coming from three goals and three assists. Sebastian Geiger also put in three goals.
The Golden Knights finished with a 64-18 advantage in shots, controlled the faceoff battle 24-4, and won the ground ball battle 52-20. The Cardinals were 1-4 on extra man-up opportunities while the Golden Knights had no opportunities. On clears, the Cardinals were 23-32 and the Golden Knights were 16-19.
Plattsburgh moves to 3-3 with the loss and next travels to Farmingdale State on Sunday, March 17 with the opening faceoff dropping at 12 pm. Clarkson moves to 3-3 with the win and next hosts Hartwick on Saturday, March 16 with the opening faceoff dropping at 12 pm.
Andrew Kearney opened the first with a goal for the Golden Knights at the 12:37 mark. The Golden Knights scored two more as they broke open a 3-0 lead. Off a Woods pass, Fucheck got the Cardinals on the board at the 8:35 mark. The Golden Knights poured on four more goals and took a 7-1 lead into the second.
The Cardinals took care of business on the extra man-up opportunity as Morin got one past the goalie off the assists from Woods at the 13:39 mark. The Golden Knights responded with an eight-goal run as the Cardinals weren't able to get any more shots off and went into halftime down 15-2.
The Golden Knights continued their run with three more goals in the third. Mario Streiff started the scoring with a goal at the 11:56 mark, followed by a goal from Reilly, and then Vincent Calabria capped off the run with a goal at the 10:51 mark. A pass from Eiseman to Ruland at the 9:02 mark ended the Cardinals scoring drought and made the score 18-3 Golden Knights. Both teams went scoreless for the rest of the quarter as the score stood 18-3 at the end of the third quarter.
Morin found Woods for a goal as the Cardinals opened the fourth with their only goal of the quarter. The Golden Knights scored the last three goals of the game at the 8:18 mark, 7:25 mark, and 6:06 mark as the Cardinals fell 21-4.
Senior goalie
Dan Clements (Putnam Valley, N.Y. / Putnam Valley) made 19 saves, falling one short of his career-high, in the loss for Plattsburgh. Junior goalie Eric Gellasch earned the win in net for Clarkson.
