Men's Lacrosse Hangs Tough in 13-7 Road Loss to Farmingdale

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team fell on the road at Farmingdale State College 13-7 in a non-conference matchup. After tying the game at one, the Rams went on a seven-goal run that gave them a seven-goal cushion that the Cardinals couldn't come back from. The Cardinals had six different goal-scorers in the loss. 

Anthony Faber (Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) and Tim Keenan (Poughquag) tied for a team-high in points with three as Faber had two goals and an assist and Keenan had one goal and two assists. Cam Morin (Raynham, Mass / Bridgewater-Raynham), Logan Vilardi (West Babylon, N.Y. / West Babylon), Ely Bruhns (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa), and John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y. / Farmingville) all put one in the net for the Cardinals. Donald Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point) registered an assist on Morin's goal while Matthew Tomlinson (Miller Place, N.Y. / Miller Place) registered an assist on Faber's second goal of the day. Jab Duval Lapaix (Bronx, N.Y. / Cardinal Hayes) picked up six faceoff wins. 
 
For the Rams, Adam Giovinco led the team in points with six with five goals and one assist. Thomas Stock and Tyler Kollar both had two goals. 
 
The Rams outshot the Cardinals 48-28 and had a 37-19 ground ball advantage. The Rams won the faceoff battle 16-8. Both teams had five extra man-up opportunities with the Cardinals only connecting on one opportunity and the Rams on three. On clears, the Cardinals were an efficient 18-20 and the Rams only failed on one attempt going 15-16. 
 
Plattsburgh moves to 3-4 with the loss and next travels to Johnson & Wales on Wednesday, March 20 with the opening faceoff dropping at 4 pm. Farmingdale moves to 6-1 with the win and next travels to WestConn on Wednesday, March 20 with the opening faceoff dropping at 7 pm. 
 
Kollar got the Rams on the board first as he cashed in on an extra man-up opportunity nearly three minutes into the game. The Cardinals' defense held the Rams scoreless and responded with a goal of their own at the 5:25 mark which tied the game at one. After the Rams were held scoreless for over ten minutes, Kyle Kolano started a four-goal run at the 1:58 mark that ended the first and made the score 5-1 Rams.  
 
The Rams opened the second with a three-goal run led by Giovinco who had two of them. Faber broke up the run with a goal at the 5:27 mark off a Keenan assist that made the score 8-2 Rams. Giovinco responded with another goal just over a minute later. Faber scored the last goal of the second off the assist from Tomlinson with less than a minute remaining and made the score 9-3 Rams after two.
 
The Cardinals opened the third with back-to-back goals coming from Vilardi at the 13:04 mark and Keenan at the 10:16 mark that made the score 9-5 Rams. The Rams scored the last three goals of the quarter as they capped off a three-goal run and made the score 12-5 at the end of the third quarter. 
 
The fourth didn't see a goal until over halfway through the quarter as Morin put one in the net off a Woods pass at the 7:23 mark. Giovinco took advantage of another extra man-up opportunity and scored the Rams' last goal at the 5:06 mark and made the score 13-6. Eiseman tacked on a late goal at the 1:21 mark as the Cardinals fell 13-7. 
 
Senior goalie Dan Clements made 13 saves in the loss for Plattsburgh while junior goalie Dan Erler had 10 saves in the win for Farmingdale.
