HENNIKER, N.H. – After sophomore midfielder,
Tim Keenan (Poughquag, N.Y. / Arlington) tied the game at 11 and forced overtime, the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team fell 12-11 in two overtimes as they wrapped up their last non-conference game of the season. In the second overtime, both teams had opportunities to win it as Keenan just missed a shot high and then Henri Pfeifle cashed in on a bounce shot that won it for New England College.
Senior attacker
John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y. / Sachem East) led the Cardinals with another six-point performance off of five goals and one assist. Keenan,
Donald Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y. / Rocky Point), and
Zach Derhak (Falmouth Maine, Falmouth) all posted three points. Keenan had two goals and one assist while Woods had one goal and two assists and Derhak had three assists.
Jamie Gipe (Baldwinsville, N.Y. / C.W. Baker),
Ely Bruhns (Clifton Park, N.Y. / Shenendehowa), and
Max Lamitie (Ridge, N.Y. / Longwood) all scored a goal with Lamitie's goal being the first of his career. First-year attacker
Dylan Irvine (Ogdensburgh, N.Y. / Ogdensburgh Free Academy) picked up his first career point with an assist. First-year defender
Fynn Whitlock (Middlebury, Vt. / Middlebury Union) picked up four ground balls and caused three turnovers. Junior midfielder
Jimbo Farrelly (West Nyack, N.Y. / Clarkstown South) won seven faceoffs.
For the Pilgrims, Matt Daley and Pfeifle both had five points as Daley recorded three goals and two assists and Pfeifle had four goals and one assist.
The Cardinals outshot the Pilgrims 58-39 and had a 36-33 advantage in ground balls. The Pilgrims won the faceoff battle 15-12. Both teams had three extra man-up opportunities as the Cardinals were successful on two attempts and the Pilgrims were only successful on one. On clears, the Cardinals were 19-24 while the Pilgrims were 14-22.
Plattsburgh moves to 4-5 overall with the loss and next travels to Cortland on Saturday, March 30 as they start SUNYAC play with the opening faceoff dropping at 1 pm. New England College moves to 2-5 overall with the win and returns to GNAC play on Saturday, March 30 as they host Lasell for a 1 pm opening faceoff.
Joey Olsen opened the game with a goal at the 13:37 mark followed by a goal from Thomas Doe nearly three minutes later as the Pilgrims opened up a 2-0 lead. Eiseman got the Cardinals on the board at the 9:45 mark followed by a goal from Lamitie that tied the game at 2. The Pilgrims ended the first with back-to-back goals as they took a 4-2 lead into the second.
The Pilgrims opened the second with back-to-back goals at the 14:34 and 13:48 mark and extended their lead to 6-2. Both teams went scoreless for nearly 10 minutes until Eiseman netted his second goal of the game at the 3:57 mark followed by a goal from Keenan that made the score 6-4 Pilgrims after two.
The Pilgrims started yet another quarter with back-to-back goals and extended their lead to 8-4 in the third. The Cardinals responded in turn with a three-goal run at the 10:21 mark with goals from Woods and back-to-back goals from Eiseman that made the score 8-7 Pilgrims. Olsen ended the run with a goal at the 7:12 mark and put the Pilgrims back up by two. Eiseman didn't wait long for a response as he put one past the goalie less than a minute later and made the score 9-8 Pilgrims. Both teams exchanged goals as Pfeifle and Gipe got in the point column and made the score 10-9 Pilgrims. Thomas Norton scored the last goal of the third at the 1:47 mark and made the score 11-9 Pilgrims at the end of the third quarter.
Bruhns opened the scoring in the fourth at the 11:23 mark. Both teams went scoreless for nearly seven minutes before Keenan scored at the 4:45 mark and tied the game at 11. Both teams had opportunities in the final minute to put the game away but neither defense gave up a goal as the game headed to overtime.
Both teams put up stout defensive efforts in the first overtime so neither team got on the board as the game headed to a second overtime. In the first overtime, the Cardinals had one shot while the Pilgrims had four and both teams forced three turnovers. Both teams had one shot in the second overtime as the Cardinals' opportunity was unsuccessful and Pfeifle put a bounce shot past the goalie to net a goal for the Pilgrims and gave them the sudden death goal win 12-11.

Dan Clements (Putnam Valley, N.Y. / Putnam Valley) made 10 saves in the loss for Plattsburgh while first-year goalie Nate Finn had 17 saves in the win for New England College.
