PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – After senior defender
Janey Adams (Wyantskill, N.Y. / Averill Park) tied the game at 12 on an extra man-up opportunity at the 3:17 mark of the fourth, the Cadets scored the final two goals as the Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team fell 14-12 in a non-conference matchup against Norwich.

Cynthia Barnosky (Shirley, N.Y. / William Floyd) led the Cardinals with five goals, a new career-high, and five points on the day. Junior midfielder
Caitlin Nash (Patchogue, N.Y. / Patchogue-Medford) also had a multi-goal game as she recorded a hat trick with the three goals she put in. Adams,
Maddy Garcia (New Paltz, N.Y. / New Paltz),
Erica Dickinson (Yaphank, N.Y. / Bellport), and
Lillian Gilroy (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) all posted one goal each. Adams led the Cardinals in draw controls with six.
For the Cadets, Ellie Moriarty led the team in points with five from four assists and one goal. Caitlyn Fielder also made an impact as she scored a three-goal hat trick.
The Cadets outshot the Cardinals 37-30 and had the edge in ground balls 27-23. The Cardinals won the draw control battle 15-12. Both teams took advantage of a free position shot as the Cardinals were 1-4 while the Cadets were 1-3. The Cardinals took advantage of extra man-up opportunities as they were 3-4 and also were great on the opposite side of it scoring two man-down goals. The Cadets were 0-2 on extra man-up opportunities. On clears, the Cardinals were 15-19 and the Cadets 20-27.
Plattsburgh moves to 1-3 with the loss and next hosts Utica on Saturday, March 16 with opening draw control at 1 pm. Norwich moves to 2-1 with the win and next hosts Rivier on Saturday, March 16 with opening draw control at 4 pm.
The Cardinals opened the first with three straight goals as Barnosky put the first goal in the back of the net and Nash the second despite the Cardinals being a man down. The Cardinals were on the opposite side of that as Barnosky scored again, with an assist from
Rachel LaMar (Ballston Lake, N.Y. / Shenendehowa), this time on an extra man-up opportunity which made the score 3-0 Cardinals. At the 6:59 mark, Athena Merck got the Cadets on the board. Both teams put a goal in the back of the net again as the quarter ended 4-2 Cardinals.
Three minutes into the second Barnosky scored her third goal of the game and completed the hat trick off a
Sam Lombardi (East Atlantic Beach, N.Y. / Kellenberg Memorial). The Cadets responded over a minute later with a goal from Julia Gutke that made the score 5-3 Cardinals. The teams traded goals once more and made the score 6-4 Cardinals. Barnosky scored the last goal of the second quarter at the 1:50 mark as the Cardinals went into halftime up 7-4.
Thirty seconds into the third the Cardinals got on the board and nearly two minutes later the Cadets responded. It was another extra man-up opportunity that the Cardinals took advantage of as Barnosky slotted one past the goalie off a
Fiona Fitzgerald (Long Beach, N.Y. / Holy Trinity) pass that made the score 9-5 Cardinals. After a five-minute scoring drought for both teams, the Cadets scored back-to-back goals at the 7:06 mark and 6:39 mark as they came within two. Twenty seconds later Nash cushioned the Cardinals' lead before Julia Proto scored the last goal of the quarter at the 4:16 mark and made the score 10-8 Cardinals after three.
The Cadets outscored the Cardinals 6-4 in the fourth quarter as Fielder opened play with a goal at the 13:47 mark pulling within one goal. Gilroy responded with a coast-to-coast goal as she took across midfield and straight to the net and made the score 11-9 Cardinals. Three straight goals from the Cadets tied and then gave them a 12-11 lead. Adams scored the Cardinals' final goal of the game after a green card had the Cadets a man down and helped the Cardinals tie the game at 12. The Cadets scored the final two goals of the game. The Cardinals got one shot on goal in the final minutes of play but weren't able to get anything in the net and ultimately fell 14-12.
First-year goalie
Jess Loch (Tappan, N.Y. / Tappan Zee) made a career-high 12 saves in the loss for Plattsburgh. Sophomore goalie Bailey Manning-Ingala made 12 saves in the win for Norwich.
