Orr Scores Two Goals to Life No. 3 Women's Ice Hockey to 2-1 Win Over Canton

CANTON, N.Y.Bridget Orr (Excelsior, Minn./North American Hockey Academy) scored two goals less than two minutes apart in game time, leading the No. 3 Plattsburgh State women's ice hockey team to a 2-1 win over SUNY Canton in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action. The Cardinals won by a 2-1 score the second straight day over Canton and for the third time in their last four overall games.

The Plattsburgh State Cardinals are currently ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com Division III Top-15 poll.

For the third time this season, Orr scored twice in a game for the Cardinals, also tallying her second game-winning goal of the season. The other four starters for the Cards picked up assists, as Julia Masotta (Tewksbury, Mass./Norwich), Kendall Wasik (Novi, Mich./HoneyBaked), Ciara Wall (Somerville, Mass./New Hampshire), and Su-An Cho (Madison, Ala./Florida Alliance) each had helpers in the win. Lilla Nease (Lake Forest, Calif/Anaheim Lady Ducks) registered her seventh straight game allowing one goal or less in net, picking up the win with 13 saves.

Each team went scoreless in power play opportunities, with Plattsburgh going 0-3 and Canton going 0-2. In 60 minutes of play, the Cards put up 38 shots to the 'Roos 14.

Plattsburgh State improves to 18-2-1 (13-1 SUNYAC) and next hosts SUNY Potsdam on Friday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. SUNY Canton falls to 12-10 (6-9 SUNYAC) and has two tough games on the road next weekend as they travel to Oswego State beginning on Feb. 9, looking to stay in the SUNYAC playoff race.

Despite the Cardinals' persistent offensive attack throughout the game, it took nearly 40 minutes of game action for the team to get on the scoreboard, as Molly Lenihan played excellently in goal for Canton, finishing with 36 saves in less than 59 minutes of action on Saturday. She helped kill an early Cardinal power play, making nine saves in two minutes of action to keep Plattsburgh off the board early on.

Orr broke the scoreless stalemate late in the second period, with just 1:13 in the period to go, as Wall found the junior forward just as she crossed the blueline ahead of the entire Kangaroo defense. With just the net in front of her, Orr buried a shot, beating Lenihan stick side to give the Cards the 1-0 lead.

Plattsburgh wasted no time adding to their lead in the third period, as Orr scored 28 seconds in, going top shelf with a slapshot from the left faceoff circle for her second goal of the game.
Canton responded just under four minutes later, as Anna Pavlasova scored at the 4:06 mark to pull the 'Roos within one goal. The Kangaroos continued to keep themselves in the game, killing two third-period power play opportunities for the Cards, holding the score at 2-1.

Over the final minutes, Plattsburgh withstood several advantage opportunities, as the 'Roos pulled their goalie and went on a late power play to go up two players over the final seconds. The Cards defense stood strong, however, not allowing the 'Roos to put a shot on goal. A huge deflection in the final minute pushed the puck through the neutral zone, wasting valuable time as Canton was unable to attempt a shot while on a six on four advantage giving the Cards the 2-1 win.
