NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Plattsburgh State men's cross country team competed at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships on Saturday at Harkness Park as Connecticut College hosted. The team finished in 15
th place with 440 points in the 8,000-meter run, with multiple Cardinals recording personal bests in their second race at Harkness Park this season.
The Cardinals concluded their season with the race, as the team will now transition to the indoor track and field season.
Erik Kucera (Mount Sinai, N.Y. / Mount Sinai) was the first runner across the line for the Cardinals recording a time of 26:46.1 for 65
th place improving on his mark of 27:11.7 he recorded at Harkness Park earlier this season. Next was
Michael Brockway (Washingtonville, N.Y. / Washingtonville) who placed 75
th with a time of 26:57.3. First-year
Sam Faga (Albany, N.Y. / Niskayuna) had a strong showing in his first regional championships coming in at 90
th with a mark of 27:32.0. Not far behind was
Denali Rodriguez-Garnica (Port Henry, N.Y. / Moriah) who set a new personal best timing in at 27:34.3 for 93
rd place.
Brody Olden (Warrensburg, N.Y. / Warrensburg) and
Peter Basile (Castleton-on-Hudson, N.Y. / Maple Hill) were the next runners across for the Cardinals coming in at 125
th and 133
rd respectively with marks of 28:39.8 and 29:11.5.
JT Zimmerman (Middlesex, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) rounded out the Cardinal finishers setting a new personal record with his mark of 29:56.8.
RPI took home the championship for the automatic berth into the NCAA Championships in Terre Haute, Ind. hosted by Rose-Hulman. The individual winner of the race came from Roger Williams as Nathan Tassey registered a mark of 24:03.40.
