No. 12 Men's Ice Hockey Falls to Oswego State in Road SUNYAC Action

OSWEGO, N.Y. – The No. 12 Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest against Oswego State on Friday night, falling to the Lakers 5-1.

The Plattsburgh State Cardinals are currently No. 12 in the latest USCHO.com Division III Top-15 Poll.

Shane Bondy (Sharon, Ontario/Markham Royals) tallied the lone Cardinal goal, as the team finished the night 1-3 on the power play, thanks to Bondy's first career score on the advantage. The Cards were able to hold the Lakers scoreless on two power-play chances, but the Lakers outshot Plattsburgh 39-24 on the night. Eli Shiller (Toronto, Ontario/Wellington Dukes) made 34 saves, allowing four goals on the night as he took the loss.

Plattsburgh State falls to 1-2 (0-1 SUNYAC) with the loss and will look to get back on track with a matchup at SUNY Canton on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The Lakers improve to 1-2-1 (1-0-0 SUNAYC) and take on the Potsdam Bears on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m.

The first period was all Oswego, as they outshot the Cardinals 20-7 and took a lead they did not relinquish at the 15:13 mark of the period, as Brandon Cohen rebounded a saved shot for the goal.

The second stanza saw a much stronger attack from the Cardinals, as they were able to control the game for large portions of the period, thanks in part to back-to-back power plays. Plattsburgh outshot Oswego 9-6 in the stanza, but was 0-2 in two power-play chances, as the game was 1-0 heading into the intermission.

Oswego State once again showed a strong effort akin to the first period, scoring just over a minute into the third stanza with a Jesse Horacek goal for a nice insurance score. Travis Barker tacked on over six minutes to put the Lakers up 3-0.

Bondy found the back of the net with just over four minutes to go in the game, as the Cardinals used a power-play to pull Shiller and play with a two-man advantage. The advantage resulted in Bondy's first career score, as he cleaned up a loose puck in front of the net to pull the Cards back within two scores.  Tyler Ramm (Westborough, Mass./Northeast Generals) and Kevin Weaver-Vitale (Toronto, Ontario/Markham Royals) each picked up assists on the play.

With the deficit, and the puck in their offensive, the Cards kept Shiller out of the net, but a turnover broke out Connor Gatto who scored the empty net goal to put Oswego up 4-1. Just over a minute-and-a-half later, Cam Symons iced the game with a Laker goal to make the score 5-1 and push Oswego to the win.

Brandon Milberg picked up the win with 23 saves in net for the Lakers.
