No. 12 Plattsburgh State Routs Canton 7-1 in Road SUNYAC Action

CANTON, N.Y. – The No. 12 Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team routed SUNY Canton 7-1 in a road State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest on Saturday night in Canton, New York. First-year forward Tyler Ramm (Westborough, Mass./Northeast Generals) had two goals for the Cards, including the game-winner, putting up his first multi-goal game of his Plattsburgh career.

The Plattsburgh State Cardinals are currently ranked at No. 12 in the latest USCHO.com Division III Top-15 Poll.

Head coach Steve Moffat also achieved his 100th career win with the victory on Saturday night. He now has 68 wins since taking over as head coach of Plattsburgh State.

Six different Cardinals had goals in the win, while four other Plattsburgh players besides Ramm had multi-point outings. Brannon Butler (Toronto, Ontario/Boston Advantage), Jake Lanyi (North Salem, N.Y./Connecticut Jr. Rangers), and Jack Ring (Hingham, Mass./Northeast Generals) each tallied a goal and two assists, while Jake Sacratini (Montreal, Quebec/AIC) had three assists. Shane Bondy (Sharon, Ontario/Markham Royals) and Aaron Catron (Middletown, Del./Philadelphia Little Flyers) each added goals for the Cards in the win.

Jacob Hearne (Ennismore, Ontario/Toronto Jr. Canadiens) earned the win in goal, making 23 saves. Plattsburgh State won the shot battle on the night, with 38 shots to Canton's 24. Each team was scoreless on the powerplay, with the Cards going 0-3 and the 'Roos 0-5.

Plattsburgh State improves to 2-2 (1-1 SUNYAC) with the win and next hosts Cortland on Friday, Nov. 22 at 7 p.m. in a 2024 SUNYAC Championship game rematch. Canton falls to 2-4 (0-2 SUNYAC) and next hosts Fredonia on Friday, Nov. 22 for a SUNYAC matchup.

The Cardinals wasted little time getting on the board, with Bondy picking up his second career goal in as many games, sending home a one-timer in the slot to put Plattsburgh up 1-0 at the 2:15 mark of the first period. Ring and William Jasmin (Saint-Clet, Quebec/Islanders Hockey Club) each tallied assists, with the assist for Jasmin giving him his first collegiate point.

Ramm followed with his first goal of the game at the 3:58 mark, as he deflected a Nick Recupero (Avon, Mass./Northeast Generals) shot from the blue line into the back of the net for the goal. Recupero tallied his first career point with the assist, while Sacratini also recorded an assist.

Butler finished the scoring in the first period, rebounding a Sacratini shot into the net for his second career goal with just under six minutes to go. Lanyi recorded an assist on the play, as Plattsburgh State took a 3-0 into the first intermission.

In the second period, Ramm added to the lead for the Cardinals, rebounding a saved Lanyi shot with 4:28 elapsed in the stanza. The fifth goal of the game for Plattsburgh State came on a highlight reel play as Ring batted a Belgrave pass out of the air and into the back of the net with just under seven minutes left in the period.

The third period finally saw Canton get on the board with a Nolan Zotter goal 38 seconds in, but Plattsburgh responded with two more goals from Catron and Lanyi. Butler had two assists in the period, with Sacratini and Tio D'Addario (Montreal, Quebec/Navan Grads) also tallying helpers.

Trey Miller took the loss in goal for Canton, making 12 saves and allowing five goals. Nate Hopkins played over 26 minutes in relief, making 21 saves.
