ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team fell to Oneonta on Wednesday evening, dropping a closely played 1-0 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) contest. The Red Dragons scored in the 14
th minute and were able to hold the Cards scoreless the rest of the way.
Lauren Haley (LaGrange, N.Y./Arlington) took the loss in net for Plattsburgh, making three saves in just over 72 minutes of action.
Lily Bailey (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) played the final 17-plus minutes, making one save. The Cardinals outshot Oneonta 11-8, but the teams were even in shots on goal with five each. In corners, Plattsburgh held a 13-1 advantage over the 90 minutes of action.
Plattsburgh State falls to 3-9 (2-2 SUNYAC) with the loss and next hosts Buffalo State on Saturday, Oct. 12 for the team's Breast Cancer Awareness game. Oneonta moves to 3-6-1 overall but 3-1 in SUNYAC action, as they next host Morrisville on Saturday, Oct. 12.
Right out of the gate, the Red Dragons put a shot on net, as Haley made a save in the 8
th minute of action, but the Cards were able to respond, giving themselves two opportunities on back-to-back corners.
However, in the 14
th minute, Kaiden Ring notched her third goal of the year off a Karsyn Kondracki assist to give the Red Dragons the 1-0 lead. The Cards were immediately able to put a shot on goal after, but the
Sally Gliganic (Stony Brook, N.Y./Ward Melville) shot was saved to keep Oneonta in front. The Cards had two shots on net saved later in the half, with
Kelly Licata (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) and
Jillian Bezio (Keeseville, N.Y./AuSable Valley) shots saved in the 28
th and 30
th minutes.
As the 1-0 lead held through halftime, the second-half effort from the Cards was strong but couldn't produce a score. Two shots on target in the 68
th and 70
th minute were saved as Plattsburgh couldn't make anything of the seven corners they earned, as they were held shotless in the final 15-plus minutes, taking the 1-0 loss.
Bryanna Meehan earned the win for the Red Dragons, making five saves over 90 minutes.
