PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer fell in home State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action, dropping a 2-1 match to Buffalo State. The Cardinals took an early 1-0 lead on an
Alexis Patrick (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) free kick but were unable to hold the early advantage in the 2-1 loss.

Lily Bailey (Warwick, N.Y./Warwick Valley) made six saves in goal playing all 90 minutes as she took her first career loss in her first career start. For the game, Buffalo State won the shot battle 15-3, while corner kicks were even at 4-4.
Plattsburgh State falls to 3-10 (2-3 SUNYAC) with the loss and next heads to New Paltz on Wednesday, Oct. 16 for a road test against the Hawks at 3 p.m. The Bengals move to 7-6 (4-1 SUNYAC) and next travel to Oneonta for a 3 p.m. matchup on Wednesday, Oct. 16.
The game started pretty evenly across both teams, with an early shot on goal for the Bengals, and an early corner for the Cardinals. In the ninth minute of action, a Buffalo State foul set up a Plattsburgh State free kick just inside the team's attacking third and Patrick was set to take the kick. A high lofted kick from the junior defender kept traveling with the wind pushing the ball towards the net, and the ball found its way over the Bengal keeper's hand, putting the Cards up 1-0.
The lead held for nearly 13 minutes, but a 21
st-minute goal from Kaylee Valentic tied the game at one. An initial shot by Makenzie Below was saved, but Valentic was there for the rebound, scoring her seventh goal of the season.
The score remained tied through halftime, and in the second half, the Bengals were able to control throughout, holding Plattsburgh shotless and taking eight shots themselves. In the 56
th minute, Olivia Kilmer gave her team the lead as she beat several Plattsburgh defenders to her right and rifled a shot off her foot for her 10
th goal of the season.
Down the stretch, Buffalo State continued to control play, eventually earning a penalty kick in the 70
th minute, but Hannah Esslie missed the kick high to keep the lead at just one.
The Bengals played strong defensively throughout the second stanza, as even though the Cardinals were able to generate chances, they were not able to translate them into shots. The Card's final chance came with a free kick just before the 89
th minute, but nothing came of it, falling 2-1 to the Bengals.
Addy Williams earned the win in goal for Buffalo State, making one save in 90 minutes.
