Women's Tennis Falls to Oswego State in SUNYAC Binghamton Trip Opener

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team dropped a State University of New York Athletic Conference match on Thursday night, falling to undefeated Oswego State 6-1, as the team opened up action at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

Plattsburgh State moves to 6-3 (1-2 SUNYAC) with the loss and next takes on Cortland at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4. With a win Friday and a Fredonia loss, the Cardinals can clinch a SUNYAC playoff berth. Oswego State moves to 11-0 (3-0 SUNYAC) and takes on New Paltz tomorrow, Oct. 3, as the conferences two undefeated teams face off in Binghamton.

The Cardinals were able to pick up a doubles win, but were unable to pick up the doubles point to start their day, falling at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Ava Carey (Nanuet, N.Y./Nanuet) and Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) were able to win their match 6-4 at No. 1 doubles, moving to 6-3 on the season as a unit.

Singles action saw three straight wins for Oswego State to action, securing the conference win for the Lakers. Two more wins followed, but Mitchell was able to take down her opponent at No. 4 singles 7-5, 6-1, avoiding the sweep on the day for Plattsburgh State. On the season, she is 7-2, moving to 18-3 in nearly two years of collegiate tennis.
