The first period was quick-paced but did not see much action offensively, as Plattsburgh only outshot the opposition 8-3. The game quickly turned in the second period, with four power plays in the first 10 minutes, with the first being on Plattsburgh, which they killed with ease.

The Cardinals got their first chance with the advantage in the sixth minute, but Ottawa was able to stall the first Plattsburgh power play. Soon after, Ottawa committed another penalty, where Urban was able to score from a shot from the point right of the face-off, giving the Cards a lead they would not relinquish. Kasprzak picked up the face-off win and assisted on the play.

Just over four minutes later, another penalty came from the 67s and the Cards took advantage once more, as Wall picked up the loose puck off the face-off and found Ruegge who nailed a shot from the point, putting the Cards up 2-0. For the period, the Cardinals' offensive attack was outstanding, putting up 21 shots on goal while holding Ottawa to three.

In the third period, the Cardinals quickly found themselves on the power play again but were unable to score. Soon after the penalty was killed, the Cards got their third goal of the game as Procyk put a shot just over the goalie's right shoulder from the left face-off circle. Ruegge tallied the assist on the play, freeing up a loose puck along the boards before finding Procyk. The Cardinals continued to control play over the final several minutes of the game, securing the victory.
