Women's Soccer Battles Oswego to SUNYAC Tie

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team battled to a 0-0 draw with Oswego on Saturday afternoon, as each team earned one point in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) standings. The game was a defensive battle played in the middle third of the pitch, as just eight total shots were taken over 90 minutes.

Lauren Haley (LaGrange, N.Y./Arlington) earned her third shutout of the season in net, making one save over full-time. The Cardinal's back line of Amy Crowley (Wallkill, N.Y./Wallkill), Casey Granger (Hopewell Junction, N.Y./Arlington), Lia Parker (Cadyville, N.Y./Saranac), and Alexis Patrick (Burnt Hills, N.Y./Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) played outstanding as they helped to limit the Oswego offense to just three shots the entire game, even with the Lakers holding a 6-2 advantage in corners. For the entire game, Plattsburgh won the shot battle by a slim margin of 5-3.

The Cardinals move to 3-11-1 (2-4-1 SUNYAC) and begin a huge final two games on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m., hosting Potsdam under the lights. The Oswego State Lakers move to 8-5-1 (4-2-1) and will host Buffalo State on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 3 p.m.

Saturday's action took place in the middle third of the pitch for a large portion of the action, as each fought for control and possession. Despite a couple of corner kicks, the game's first shot did not come until the 21st minute, when Sabrina Schmitt's shot was saved by Haley, marking the lone shot on goal for Oswego of the game. Soon after, Kelly Licata (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) put a shot on goal as well, but the shot was saved on the bottom left side of the net by Perri Anderson.

After five total shots in the first half, shots became even harder to find in the second half, as the teams combined for three shots in the second stanza. The first shot of the second half was a wide attempt from Brianna Winkler in the 65th minute while the Cardinals did not get a good look at a shot attempt until the closing minutes.

In the 87th minute, Catrina Maltes (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) had a deep shot attempt saved while Claire Bottjer (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Our Lady of Lourdes) had an excellent look from just outside the six sail wide right just over 30 seconds later after a great feed from Maltes.

After the two looks from Plattsburgh, neither team was able to attempt a shot in the game, sealing the 0-0 tie.

Anderson made two saves in goal for Oswego to earn the shutout.
