ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team fell in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action to Oneonta on Friday afternoon, losing 8-1. The Red Dragons were last year's runner-up in the conference, and defeated the Cards by the same score a year ago.
Plattsburgh sustains their first loss of the season, falling to 2-1 (0-1 SUNYAC), and they will travel to Utica in the morning for a 12 p.m. date on Saturday, Sept. 9 with the Pioneers on the road. Oneonta moves to 1-1 (1-0 SUNYAC) with the win and will play Drew at 10 a.m. on Sept. 9.Â
In doubles play, the Red Dragons took all three matches, by scores of 8-1, 8-3, and 8-1. In singles play, several Cardinals had competitive matches, with
Jacklin Mitchell (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Peru) taking home the only Plattsburgh win 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Sarah Benowitz (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) played a tight match at No. 3 singles, falling in three sets after winning a second set tiebreaker.
Samantha Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) nearly forced a decisive third set in No.1 singles, but fell 6-1, 7-5 to take a close loss.Â
