Plattsburgh finishes the regular season 7-4-5 and will next play Geneseo in the opening round of their conference tournament. The Cardinals host the Knights at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28 as the third-seeded Cards will look to advance to their ninth semifinal in the last 10 seasons. Canton wraps up their season falling to 0-12-4.
Just 10 seconds into the game, the Cardinals notched the opening score, as Plattsburgh easily moved through the Canton defense, leading to Fitzgerald finding Brown streaking down the left side of the field for the goal. While no statistical records exist on the quickness of a goal being scored at Plattsburgh, it is likely one of the fastest scores in program history.
Just three minutes later, Fitzgerald added her seventh goal of the season, scoring a goal off a Durgan assist, as the Cardinals moved the ball in and around the Canton's defense with ease. Fitzgerald added her eighth goal of the year five minutes after that, as Santomassimo found the senior attacker open just outside the six for the score.
In the 16
th minute, Durgan scored her new career-high sixth goal of the year off the foot of Brown to make the score 4-0 early in the game action. After a flurry of subs in the 16
th minute, Maltes entered and found her chance in the 27
th minute, making an excellent combination of moves around her defender at the top of the 18-yard box to connect on her second goal of the season. The final score came off a Rice throw-in late in the second half, as her throw found Landman wide open in the box, where she finished for her first career score.
Overall, Plattsburgh displayed an outstanding offensive effort, attempting a season-high 36 shots with 23 on goal, also a season-high. The team earned seven corners and controlled the ball for the entire game, not even allowing the 'Roos to attempt a shot over 90 minutes.
Skylar Williams made eight saves in goal taking the loss playing the first half, while Emma Cahill played the second half and made eight saves as well, allowing one goal.
