FARMINGDALE, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's tennis team kicked off the 2022-23 season with a 6-3 come-from-behind victory over Farmingdale State University on Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals had to overcome a 2-1 hole through doubles, with juniors
Samantha Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and
Nicole Svantner (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) winning, 8-3, at No. 3 to prevent the Rams from a doubles sweep.
Senior
Alyana Leandry (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) won, 5-7, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 singles,
Samantha Svantner triumphed, 6-0, 7-5, at No. 3 singles, junior
Sarah Benowitz (New City, N.Y./Clarkstown North) prevailed, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 4 singles, sophomore
Hallie Hurwitz (Beekmantown, N.Y./Beekmantown) posted a 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles and sophomore
Sophia Gottschall (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Plattsburgh) took a 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 6 singles.
Plattsburgh State looks to add another win to its record tomorrow morning when it visits Dominican (N.Y.) University for an 11 a.m. match.
