2022-23 Plattsburgh State Men's Ice Hockey Schedule

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's ice hockey team will contest a 25-game regular-season slate in 2022-23 as it looks to vie for its 24th State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) championship in program history.

Prior to the start of the regular season, the Cardinals host Castleton University (Oct. 15) and visit Saint Michael's College (Oct. 22) in exhibition contests. Plattsburgh State kicks off its regular-season slate at Plymouth State (Oct. 28) and Castleton University (Oct. 29) before visiting Oswego State (Nov. 4) and SUNY Cortland (Nov. 5) to open up SUNYAC play. The Cardinals host SUNY Brockport (Nov. 11) and four-time defending SUNYAC champion SUNY Geneseo (Nov. 12) in their first home games of the regular season before entertaining Fredonia (Nov. 18) and Buffalo State (Nov. 19) the following weekend.

Plattsburgh State then competes at the FirstLight Shootout hosted by Norwich University from Nov. 25-26, facing Middlebury College on Nov. 25 and either Norwich or Aurora University in either the consolation or the championship game on Nov. 26. Road games at SUNY Potsdam (Dec. 3) and Norwich (Dec. 6) and a home game against SUNY Morrisville (Dec. 9) wraps up the 2022 portion of the Cardinals' schedule.

The Cardinals ring in the New Year with the Cardinal Winter Classic from Jan. 6-7, squaring off with the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Jan. 6 before facing either Oswego or Potsdam in the consolation or championship game on Jan. 7. Plattsburgh State closes out its non-conference schedule at Middlebury (Jan. 13) and at home against Williams College (Jan. 14) before hosting rival Oswego (Jan. 20) and Cortland (Jan. 21) the following weekend. The Cardinals then contest four straight games on the road, beginning at Brockport (Jan. 27) and Geneseo (Jan. 28) before travelling to Fredonia (Feb. 3) and Buffalo State (Feb. 4). Plattsburgh State wraps up the regular season with a home game against Potsdam on Feb. 10 and a road contest at Morrisville on Feb. 15.

The top six teams in the final regular-season conference standings will qualify for the SUNYAC Tournament, with the tournament champion earning an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. The first round is set for Feb. 22, the semifinals are slated for Feb. 25 and the championship game is scheduled for March 4. The top two teams earn a bye through the first round, with the highest and highest-remaining seeds serving as hosts throughout the tournament.

Steve Moffat, who guided the Cardinals to a 15-8-3 overall (11-4-1 SUNYAC) record in 2021-22.
