Salamanca, N.Y. - First-Year
Kyle Cremin (Yorktown Heights, NY/kennedy Catholic) posted a three-hit, four RBI game to lead the Cardinals to their first SUNYAC win of the season.
Chris Santic (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) picked up the win in relief and
Sean Malamud (Staten Island, NY/Susan E. Wagner) picked up the save, recording the final out entering the game with the bases loaded and the tying run on base.
The Plattsburgh offense stayed hot as
Christian Lent (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) and
Kaden Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, NY/Beekmantown) each drove in multiple runs, as Lent went 3-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs and Kowalowski went 2-4 with three RBIs.
Andrew Veit (Yaphank, NY/Bellport) also posted two hits, as the junior scored a run and stole two bases.
The offense was rolling as the team had five extra base hits. Cremin crushed two doubles, while Lent and Kowalowski both tripled.
Aaron Roman (Pelham, NY/Pelham Memorial) also had an RBI double for the Cardinals in the win.
Plattsburgh State got the scoring started right away, as the team pushed three runs across in the first frame. After a couple of walks to start the game, Lent drove in the first run with a single to right. Cremin followed with a double to drive in two more runs and give the Cards a 3-0 early lead.
After Fredonia tied the game up with three runs in the second, Cremin doubled once more, driving in another run to allow the Cardinals to take the lead. Kowalowski was next with a clutch-hit socirng two with a sinlge.
Plattsburgh's offense put the game nearly out of reach in the fifth, scoring six runs in the frame. Lent began the scoring with a triple and was scored soon after by a single from Cremin. Kowalowksi tripled immediately after and scored on an error. After Veit scored on a passed ball, Roman knocked in a run with a double to give the Cards their final run of the inning.
Fredonia State did not go down without a fight, however, scoring a run in the fifth and then adding four runs in the ninth with two outs. Malamud struck out the final batter of the game, with the batter representing the tying run.
Ryan Nista (East Greenbush, NY/Columbia) tossed 2.2 scoreless innings in middle relief, eating up some valuable innings for the Plattsburgh pitching staff.
The team will be back in action tomorrow for a doubleheader against Fredonia State beginning at 2 p.m.
