Eiseman, Kane Combine for Seven Goals in Men's Lacrosse's 19-7 Setback to Oswego

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Sophomore attackman John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) and senior midfielder Stephen Kane (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) scored four and three goals, respectively, but the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team dropped a 19-7 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) decision to Oswego State Saturday afternoon at the Field House Complex.
 
With his four points on three goals and an assist, Kane has hit the 100-point plateau, as he now has 103 for his career.

Oswego finished with the upper hand in shots (61-41) and ground balls (26-13) in addition to going 19-for-29 at the 'X.' On clears, the Lakers were 18-for-20, while the Cardinals were 14-for-21. Oswego converted 2-of-5 man-up chances, while Plattsburgh State netted two goals in nine extra-man chances.
 
Plattsburgh State falls to 2-7 overall (0-2 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, April 5, at 7 p.m. Oswego rises to 6-2 overall (1-0 SUNYAC) with the win and next hosts SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday, April 5, at 4 p.m.
 
Oswego started out hot out of the gates, with first-year attackman/midfielder Corey O'Connor scoring twice in the opening 2:24 of play. The Lakers went on to score four more goals in the first quarter to lead, 6-0, through 15 minutes of action.
 
Kane scored man-up on a feed from senior midfielder Zach Gill (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) 58 seconds into the second quarter, while Gill connected with Eiseman 2:03 later to cut the gap to 6-2. Oswego buried five unanswered goals before Kane tallied man-up on a pass from Gill with 1:13 remaining in the second to trim the deficit to 11-3 heading into halftime.
 
Oswego and Plattsburgh State traded goals in the early stages of the third quarter, with Oswego's sophomore attackman/midfielder Liam Sexton scoring on a feed from junior attackman Ryan Dumont 32 seconds into the period before Gill found Eiseman for a goal 25 seconds later. Sophomore midfielder Ryan Eccles scored unassisted for the Lakers before Eiseman netted a goal midway through the stanza. Oswego scored three more goals in the third to carry a 16-5 advantage into the fourth.
 
First-year midfielder Ely Bruhns (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) fed Kane for a goal 24 seconds into the fourth quarter, while Kane connected with Eiseman less than four minutes later. The Lakers scored the final three goals of the game, with first-year midfielder Max Brodman's man-up strike (Eccles assist) with 1:06 to go serving as the last score of the afternoon.
 
Eiseman and Kane impacted the game beyond scoring, as Eiseman collected a team-high three ground balls and Kane caused a team-high two turnovers.
 
For Oswego, Eccles finished with six points on four goals and two assists, while senior attackman Weston Gray and sophomore midfielder Gavin Elston each registered four points on three goals and an assist. First-year face-off specialist Logan Prescott paced the Lakers at the face-off dot, going 16-for-25 with 11 ground balls.
 
Senior goalie Christian Bassi (Windham, N.H./Kimball Union Academy) made 11 saves before handing the reins off to sophomore goalie Dan Clements (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley), who turned aside three shots in 8:35 of reserve action. Junior goalie Aiden Kenyon earned the win for Oswego with 10 saves against seven goals allowed in 50:20 of work.
