Women's Lacrosse Drops SUNYAC Road Decision to Geneseo

GENESEO, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team fell, 19-5, to SUNY Geneseo in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action Saturday afternoon at College Stadium.
 
Geneseo held the upper hand in shots (43-13), ground balls (15-9) and draw controls (17-11) while going 8-for-8 on clear attempts. The Cardinals were 5-for-15 on clears.
 
Plattsburgh State falls to 3-7 overall (1-4 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY Potsdam on Wednesday, April 20, at 7 p.m. Geneseo rises to 9-2 overall (5-1 SUNYAC) with the win and next visits Fredonia on Wednesday, April 20, at 4 p.m.
 
The Knights scored the first 10 goals of the game and led 9-0 through the first quarter. The Cardinals countered with three straight goals, as junior midfielder Caroline Noia (West Nyack, N.Y./Clarkstown South) and sophomore midfielder Jordan Kowalski (Westfield, Mass./Westfield) each scored before Kowalski connected with junior midfielder Lindsay Guzzetta (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) to cut the gap to 10-3 at the half.
 
Geneseo then netted four more unanswered goals to open up the third quarter, and a woman-up strike from graduate student midfielder Megan Henderson staked the Knights to a 14-3 advantage. Noia tallied on a free-position shot with 1:35 remaining in the third to trim the deficit to 14-4 heading into the final regulation period.
 
In the fourth, Geneseo scored four straight goals before Guzzetta broke up the surge midway through the period. Geneseo's graduate student attacker Nicole Voci scored the final goal of the afternoon with 4:05 left.
 
Noia and Guzzetta led the Cardinals with two goals each, while senior midfielder Davina Gyedu (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) posted five draw controls.
 
Graduate student attacker Hannah Marafioti paced the Knights with seven points on five goals and two assists, while first-year attackers Madelynn Brown (three goals, two assists) and Molly Brown (one goal, four assists) each registered five points. Sophomore midfielder Emily Salanger and Henderson scored four and three goals, respectively. Salanger controlled five draws, while Henderson and Marafioti each scooped up three ground balls.
 
Sophomore goalie Johanna Malone (Levittown, N.Y./Division Avenue) and junior goalie Lilla Nease (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) made nine and four saves, respectively, for Plattsburgh State, while Geneseo utilized four different goalies, with senior goalie Maragaret Rosaschi accounting for the team's two saves.
