PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team had 13 different goal scorers in a 21-5 win over Russell Sage College in its non-conference finale on Tuesday afternoon at the Field House Complex.
First-year attackman
Donald Woods (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) led the way with seven points on four goals and three assists, while senior midfielder
Zach Gill (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) tallied six points on three goals and three assists. Sophomore attackman
John Eiseman (Farmingville, N.Y./Sachem East) also scored three goals and added an assist. Senior face-off specialist
Daniel Umbro (Harrison, N.Y./Harrison) dominated at the 'X,' going 14-for-18 with three ground balls, while senior defenseman
Justin Rocovich (Bohemia, N.Y./Connetquot) led the defense with seven ground balls and four caused turnovers.
The Cardinals finished with a 51-33 edge in shots and a 38-17 advantage in ground balls in addition to going 18-for-29 as a team at the face-off dot. On clears, Plattsburgh State was 15-for-19, while Russell Sage was 11-for-18. The Gators scored three man-up goals on 14 extra-man chances, while the Cardinals were 0-for-3 on extra-man opportunities.
Russell Sage challenged Plattsburgh State early, with graduate student attackman Hunter Brunelle scoring a man-up goal on a feed from junior attackman Anthony Abreu 1:11 into the contest. Senior midfielder
Stephen Kane (Hampden, Mass./Minnechaug Regional) leveled the tally 1:08 later on a pass from Eiseman, while first-year long-stick midfielder
Kyle Ruland (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford) gave the Cardinals the lead midway through the first quarter. The Gators received a man-up strike from senior attackman Bailey Martin to draw back to even, but senior midfielder
Andrew Braverman (Sayville, N.Y./Sayville), Gill and Woods each scored on passes from junior midfielder
Gustav Rugg (Haverstraw, N.Y./North Rockland), Ruland and Gill, respectively, to put Plattsburgh State on top, 5-2, through 15 minutes of play.
The Cardinals broke the game open with seven unanswered goals in the second quarter, which included graduate student defenseman
Max Burgio's (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) first collegiate goal and two markers each from Woods, Eiseman and Gill. Assists in the quarter came from Woods (two), Braverman, Kane and junior midfielder
Owen Lorenzetti (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse Academy). Plattsburgh State led, 12-2, at the halftime intermission.
In the third, Eiseman opened scoring in the period on a pass from Lorenzetti, while sophomore midfielder
Cam Morin (Raynham, Mass./Bridgewater-Raynham) netted his first collegiate goal 1:46 later on a pass from Woods. Woods, senior midfielder
Matt Trypaluk (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) and first-year midfielder
Logan Vilardi (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) all scored, the last two of which were assisted by Gill, before Russell Sage's Brunelle broke up the surge with a man-up goal on a pass from Abreu. The Gators cut the deficit to 17-4 with 1:48 left in the third when sophomore midfielder Ryan Hanna tallied on a pass from first-year attackman Kollin Matthews.
Sophomore short-stick defensive midfielder
Logan Jones (Bayport, N.Y./Bayport-Blue Point) scored unassisted 27 seconds into the fourth quarter before sophomore attackman
Zach Derhak (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) buried his first collegiate goal 2:23 later on a pass from junior attackman
Michael Swift (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle). First-year attackman
Ryan Weaver (Colonie, N.Y./Colonie) tallied his first collegiate marker man-down on a feed from Ruland, while Derhak added to the Cardinal tally with 6:23 left in the fourth. Russell Sage's first-year defenseman Joe Johnson spelled the final score 1:06 before the final horn when he cashed in a dish from junior midfielder Sean McGirr.
Brunelle led Russell Sage with two goals, while Johnson scooped up four ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Dan Clements (Putnam Valley, N.Y./Putnam Valley) and senior goalie
Christian Bassi (Windham, N.H./Kimball Union Academy) made eight and four saves, respectively, in the victory for the Cardinals, while first-year goalie Erik Reynolds turned aside 10 shots in the loss for the Gators.
