PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – Despite pulling within three runs in the bottom of the seventh, the Plattsburgh State baseball team dropped a 17-5 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) decision to No. 21 Oswego State on Tuesday afternoon at Chip Cummings Field to close out a conference series.
Plattsburgh State plated three runs in the home half of the seventh to draw within three, as junior right fielder
Conner Gonzalski (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) scored on a throwing error by the second baseman before senior designated hitter
Aaron Roman (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) drove in first-year third baseman
Kyle Cremin (Yorktown Heights, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) and graduate student first baseman
Steve Messerschmitt (Fishkill, N.Y./Carmel) with a double to right center.
Oswego countered with a nine-run eighth to break the game open, as the Lakers scattered five hits and drew three walks in the inning.
Plattsburgh State drops to 10-9 overall (0-3 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits No. 6 SUNY Cortland on Friday, April 15, at 3 p.m. Oswego rises to 16-5 overall (5-0 SUNYAC) with the win and next hosts the University of Rochester tomorrow at 4 p.m.
The Lakers scored three runs in the second before junior catcher
Kaden Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) put the Cardinals on the board in the home half of the inning with an RBI single to third base. Oswego added to its lead in the third with a solo home run by senior right fielder C.J. McCarthy and an RBI single by senior shortstop Paul Tammaro, while graduate student center fielder Kyle Lauria scored on a wild pitch in the fourth to pin Oswego to a 6-1 edge. Roman got one back for Plattsburgh State with an RBI single through the right side in the fifth, while senior first baseman Ryan Weiss added to the Laker cushion with a two-run double in the sixth.
Cremin and Roman each had two hits to lead the Cardinal attack, with Roman recording three RBI.
For Oswego, five different players had multi-hit games, led by Weiss' 4-for-5 outing with four RBI and three runs scored.

Andrew Veit (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) was the pitcher of record for Plattsburgh State, yielding six runs (four earned) on eight hits while striking out three in 3 1/3 innings of play. Oswego used five pitchers in the victory, with senior Connor VanDreason serving as the pitcher of record.
