Davenport, Fla. - The Plattsburgh State Baseball (5-6) team dropped their final game on their Florida trip, falling 12-0 to Rutgers-Camden (6-6). The Raptors posted six and then five runs in back to back innings to put the game effectively out of reach of the Cardinals early in the contest.
Plattsburgh nearly got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning, as
Andrew Veit (Yaphank, NY/Bellport) reached on a walk and nearly scored on a
Kyle Cremin (Yorktown Heights, NY/ Kennedy Catholic) double in the left field gap, but was gunned down at the plate by a strong relay from Rutgers-Camden.
Four hits and one error allowed the Raptors to tack on six runs in the third and then five runs came home in the fourth, capitalized by a three-run home run, which helped to give Rutgers-Camden a 11-0 lead.
Logan Avin (Waterford, CT/ Waterford) was solid in relief, going 3.2 innings to help limit the damage coming from the Raptors' lineup. Avin struck out three batters as well, in what his first career outing as Cardinal.
Alex Kornblau (Pound Ridge, NY/Fox Lane) continued his strong Florida trip, as he doubled twice for the Cards in the loss. The sophomore infielder went 11-13 on the Florida trip, as he rapped out seven extra base hits, including five doubles and two home runs.
Steve Messerschmitt (Fishkill, NY/Carmel) had a single and stolen base coming off the bench and
Mike Rasquin (Garden City, NY/Garden City) had a base hit as well.
Plattsburgh State finishes their Florida trip at 5-6 and will return to New York this week. They will return to action when they travel to SUNY New Paltz on March 25th for their SUNYAC opener at 3 p.m.
