Baseball Defeats Maine-Presque Isle, Falls to Minnesota Morris at RussMatt Central Florida Invitational

DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team split a pair of games at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Monday, defeating the University of Maine, Presque Isle, 18-3, before falling to the University of Minnesota Morris, 5-2, in the nightcap.
 
Plattsburgh State moves to 4-5 overall with the results and takes on Springfield College tomorrow at 1:15 p.m. Maine-Presque Isle drops to 1-5 with the loss, while Minnesota Morris rises to 2-3 overall with the win.
 
Sophomore second baseman/designated hitter Alex Kornblau (Pound Ridge, N.Y./Fox Lane) batted 6-for-7 across the two games, driving in six runs total and hitting two home runs. Junior shortstop Andrew Veit (Yaphank, N.Y./Bellport) had a standout game against Maine-Presque Isle, going 5-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBI.
 
On the hill, first-year pitcher Kolby Mordecki (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) earned the game-one win, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out four in five innings of work. Against Minnesota Morris, sophomore pitcher Chris Santic (Stony Point, N.Y./North Rockland) threw lights out in relief, yielding one run on three hits while striking out seven in 4 2/3 innings of action.
