DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Plattsburgh State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader against undefeated Loras College at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Sunday, dropping a 5-0 decision to the Duhawks in game one before falling, 11-3, in game two.
Plattsburgh State falls to 3-4 overall with the losses and will look to get back in the win column tomorrow when it faces the University of Maine, Presque Isle at 10:30 a.m. and the University of Minnesota, Morris at 7 p.m. Loras rises to 12-0 overall with the wins and next faces Colby-Sawyer College tomorrow at 10 a.m.
Game 1: Loras 5, Plattsburgh State 0
Loras scored one run in the first, one run in the second, one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to post the game-one victory, while Plattsburgh State scattered six hits despite being held scoreless.
Six different Cardinals had a hit in the contest, with senior shortstop
Christian Lent (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) going 1-for-2 with a walk. Senior shortstop Luke Fennelly and senior center fielder Joe Egan each notched two hits to lead the Duhawks.
Senior pitcher
Peter Gregory (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) allowed three runs (two earned) on six hits while striking out one in 4 1/3 innings of work as the pitcher of record. Sophomore pitcher
Justin Osborn (Latham, N.Y./Shaker) tossed 2 2/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out three.
Loras' junior pitcher Matt Jeter pitched a six-hit shutout while striking out four batters.
Game 2: Loras 11, Plattsburgh State 3
Down just one run through four-and-a-half innings of play, the Cardinals were unable to hang on in the home half of the fifth, as Loras plated six runs before pushing across three more in the bottom of the sixth.
Lent ripped an RBI double to left field to score junior left fielder
Kaden Kowalowski (Plattsburgh, N.Y./Beekmantown) to cut the deficit in half in the fifth before the Duhawks countered with six runs in the bottom of the inning. While Loras extended its lead with a three-run sixth, Lent drove in two runs with a triple to right field in the top of the seventh.
Lent led the Cardinals at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two extra-base hits. For Loras, Fennelly and sophomore catcher Daniel Rogers each notched two hits.

Ryan Lawyer (Schenectady, N.Y./Colonie Central) was tagged with the loss, yielding five runs (two earned) on five hits while striking out two. Junior pitcher
Ryan Nista (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia) tossed two innings of relief, giving up six runs (four earned) on four hits while striking out two.
For Loras, senior pitcher Ryan Wohlers earned the win on the hill, allowing one run on two hits while striking out eight.
