BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The Plattsburgh State women's basketball team limited SUNY Brockport to 27.6 percent (16-of-58) shooting from the floor, but the Cardinals wound up falling by a 50-43 final to the Golden Eagles in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) action at Jim and John Vlogianitis Gym on Friday evening.
Junior guard
Mya Smith (Wappingers Falls, N.Y./Roy C. Ketcham) led the Cardinals' attack with 13 points and three assists, while junior forward

The Cardinals shot 29.3 percent (17-of-58) from the field and 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from 3-point range, while the Golden Eagles finished with a 52-38 edge in rebounds.
Plattsburgh State falls to 5-12 overall (2-8 SUNYAC) with the loss and next visits SUNY Geneseo tomorrow at 2 p.m. Brockport rises to 9-8 overall (4-7 SUNYAC) with the win and hosts SUNY Potsdam tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Ruberto scored the first two points of the game, but Brockport scored four unanswered points to take a 4-2 advantage. The lead changed hands five more times in the first quarter, and a layup by sophomore guard
Brinley Inglee (Hudson Falls, N.Y./Hudson Falls) with 24 seconds left in the first gave the visitors an 11-10 advantage.
Neither team scored for the opening 2:41 of the second quarter, but the Golden Eagles took a 12-11 lead following a pair of free throws by Sordetto. Plattsburgh State then went on a 5-0 surge, with Inglee draining a 3-pointer and junior forward
Misa Dowdell (Far Rockaway, N.Y./Scholars Academy) hitting a jumper to construct a 16-12 edge midway through the second. Brockport eventually netted six unanswered points to regain the lead (20-18), but a layup by first-year forward
Payton Couture (Redford, N.Y./Saranac) with 2:23 remaining in the stanza tied the score at 20-all, which wound up being the halftime tally.
After the two teams traded points to open up the third quarter, Plattsburgh State went on a 5-0 tear, and a layup by senior guard
Kayla Doody (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac) handed the Cardinals a 27-24 cushion. Brockport scored seven unanswered points to regain the lead, and the Golden Eagles never trailed from that point forward. Two free throws by Brockport's senior forward Kylee Rosbrook put the home team on top, 33-30, heading into the final quarter.
Both teams traded baskets for most of the fourth quarter, which gave the Cardinals the opportunity to hang around late. Smith cut the gap to 46-43 when she made a free throw with 43 seconds to go, but Brockport's graduate student forward Erin Nolan put the game on ice with a 4-for-4 showing at the line in the waning moments.
