Women's Soccer Defeats SUNY Cortland, 1-0, to Stay Undefeated in SUNYAC Play

CORTLAND, N.Y. — The Plattsburgh State women's soccer team remained undefeated in State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play with a 1-0 road win over SUNY Cortland on Saturday afternoon at Holloway Field.

With the victory, Plattsburgh State improved its SUNYAC record to 2-0-0 and its overall record to 5-1-2. The Cardinals next host SUNY Oneonta for a SUNYAC match at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1. Cortland (3-4-1, 1-1-0 SUNYAC) hosts Fredonia at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1.

Plattsburgh State, which outshot Cortland 17-9 (8-6 shots on goal), held a 10-4 edge in shots in the first half. However, neither team scored in the first 45:00 of play.

Senior midfielder Allison Seidman (Commack, N.Y./Commack) scored what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 74th minute of the match. Sophomore defender Nora Fitzgerald (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) played the ball from the left side of the attacking third ahead to senior forward Emily Frodyma (Watervliet, N.Y./Catholic Central), who was wide on the left side of the field. Frodyma dribbled near the end line towards the goal. Frodyma then played a pass across the front of the goal. Seidman ran into the six-yard box and one-touched a shot into the right side of the goal.

The defense did the rest as Plattsburgh State held on for the 1-0 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Julia Ennis (Carmel, N.Y./Kennedy Catholic) improved her record to 5-1-2 on the season. Ennis made six saves to earn her second shutout of the season — the sixth of her collegiate career.

Lexi Ramonetti (1-1-0) made seven saves for the Red Dragons.
